Bound for Boston

Right now I am on a plane bound for Boston...being picked up by one of my oldest and dearest friends...met when we were 19 and just starting a job with the New England Telephone company...so young, stupid and ...what else....expecting the best from life and only the best...were we in for a great surprise, you get what you expect, but it's all the stuff in between that really surprises you! A couple of months ago we signed up for social security together which I guess is apropos seeing we started our first full time jobs together...One thing about the phone company that I remember was that all the people around me that were retiring seemed to die within a year of their retirement...somehow that really turned me off on the phone company as a career choice. By far not the only thing, for sure. Ethel went on to get her college education and retire from the phone company and low and behold she is still alive and kicking, for which I am thankful!!! So it goes!

I actually got a whole row to myself this trip, which doesn't happen all that often, especially to Boston...a lot of connecting flights out of Houston. My flight back next Monday does not look as promising. I actually was in first class on my last flight...Tampa to Houston last week...bit of a pleasant surprise...nice shrimp salad and about a half a bottle of wine...feeling no pain by the time I landed in Houston. Got real friendly with my traveling partner which seems to happen a lot in first class, especially when the wine is flowing. I've made some great friends this way...can't really share those stories, what would my daughter say!
Well, I am hoping to do a lot while I am here, maybe see the xmas lights on Boston Common...for one thing, family xmas party for sure and maybe a ride down the cape for pics, maybe we'll get some snow!

One thing I am really frustrated about is...I can't seem to get anywhere but my "three cities." I wouldn't even call this a travel blog anymore...A few interruptions have come up since I made the decision to leave everything behind and act like a gypsy! I have to spend considerable time in Plymouth helping out with family matters and then there are the grandchildren. So, not so easy to get away. I have a friend that wants to spend some time, maybe a few weeks in Italy....so thinking about that for the spring...maybe a house swap, which would be just perfect. Now this has me thinking of how could I get all the parents of flight crew together in a web site to either travel together or house swap...I am definitely going to look into that!

If I could go anywhere in the world right now I'd like to spend Christmas at
Stratford-upon-Avon, talk about a picture perfect town, especially for holiday...
a few years back I was blessed to be able to spend Christmas in Rome....to me it was a trip of a lifetime.... audience with the Pope and Xmas dinner with Italian Family...friends of friends....didn't get nearly enough pics...now there are grandchildren so a little difficult to do..but could do New Years Eve....or maybe St Pats day in Ireland...Bastille day in Paris....actually it may be more fun to spend St. Pats day in Paris and Bastille day in Ireland.

One good thing that happened today is...I got a seat on the plane and I have a ride to Plymouth from Boston. I have many blessings, which I try to remember every day!
