Is there an beachcomer alive that can resist the gathering of shells and beautiful stones? Now that I have the time, my sandy buckets overflow with the treasures of the sea. Sitting in glass jars or decorative bowls is a great way to display my riches, but I found I needed a few more ways to display my bounty, especially from my childhood beach, where the memories of the treasure hunting are not just from a day, a weekend or a summer vacation but from years and years and years, oh oh, too many years! of summers at the beach and now, winter sojourns as well. Growing up in a cottage a block from the sea, the supply of sand, shells and white rocks were endless. Amazingly my parents never complained, well, not that I remember. I may have blocked that part out.

Framing my summer windows with shells, glued (glue gun, no need to drill holes) to my canvas drapes (actually two shower curtains I got at BBB on sale), the curtains look as if they came that way. Glued to canvas or muslin pillow edges is a constant reminder of my beach. Starfish & sand dollars strung in procession on a pretty ribbon or heavy string across a window or mirror make great ornements for a party or everyday.

Presents wrapped in handmade paper, tied with raffia with a shell run through it, makes that gift all the more special. Peace and joy and memories are what shells, sand and my white rocks feed me...someday I may get back to a little house by the ocean, in the meantime my "jewels of the sea" keep my memories intact. Don't forget, never take shells while the tenants are still enjoying their little castles! It's not only cruel, it's against the law.
